Small Art: Camping

New Carves
New Carves

I just finished hosting a swap for one of my favorite subjects; Camping.  It was fall here and the weather is perfect for camping.  We had already been twice, so i thought it the perfect theme for a LTC swap!  It quickly filled up, and we received some wonderful cards.

The one I ended up making is one of my favorite cards I have made so far.  I love being outside.  Though I do not have a camper and have never stayed in one, I thought it would be the perfect image to carve for a stamp.  For this card, I did sketch out some ideas of what I might like to put together.  It helped in visualizing before I started creating.  I wanted to try something a little different than I had seen done before.

I used several different scrapbook papers to create the background, the butterfly and the trees.  The strip along the top was cut out of the state park guide and run over a distressed ink pad to blend it in with the colors of the card.  I used the same ink to distress the edges of the background papers.  I used my watercolor pencils to add the color to the camper.  It was a lot of fun to put together.

Unfortunately, I lost that distress ink along the trail one day and have not yet found a replacement.  It was one of my favorites and I used it a lot.  🙁

Step outside of your box and try something a little different.  You might be surprised and happy by the results!
